NORTHFIRE

(03) — Electric fireplaces

real-lookingfire, no flue/

Built-in electric fireplaces have come a long way. The best ones read as real flame from across the room, install into a framed wall, and add heat to the room. We help you get the size, framing and power right the first time.

Buying guide

Most return headaches start with the wrong size. These are the questions we ask before we recommend anything.

How to choose an electric fireplace

  1. (01)

    Size to the wall

Linear units run from about 3 to over 8 feet wide. We'll size it to your wall and to where the TV goes.

  2. (02)

    Power

Many run on standard 120V; larger heat outputs may need 240V. Check before you frame.

  3. (03)

    Recessed, built-in or wall-mount

Recessed and built-in units need framing. Wall-mount units hang like a TV.

  4. (04)

    Indoor or outdoor-rated

Only use outdoor-rated units on covered patios and lanais.

Questions we hear

Does an electric fireplace actually heat the room?

Most add supplemental heat to the room they're in. They are not a replacement for your home's heating system.

Can it go under a TV?

Usually, yes. Heat output and clearances vary by unit, so we check the specs against your wall before you order.
